Mao collar
Popularized in the 1950s by Chinese President Mao Zedong, the Mao collar stands out from other shirt collars thanks to its particularity: it does not have a flap. Instead, a simple collar stand.
The Mao collar or Mandarin collar is simply a collar band whose ends are rounded or straight depending on the model. Easy to wear, the Mao collar does not lack character. But be careful, make no mistake: the Mao collar is not an officer collar! Often confused, Mao collar and officer collar are very different. Indeed, the officer collar is buttoned up, its edges overlap and end in a rounded shape. The Mao collar, on the other hand, is slightly open, its sides do not touch each other and end in a more square shape. Accessory aficionados, beware! Point of tie or bow tie with the Mao collar. It goes best with warm materials, such as suede, leather or cotton. Moccasins, braided belt, tanned leather bag... It's up to you to tame it.

With what to associate the Mao collar
More original than a classic collar or even an officer collar, a mao collar is a touch of exoticism to your outfit. The advantage is that it adapts to all styles, whether formal or casual.
In a casual version, the mao collar shirt can be oxford, end-on-end or poplin, it can be worn, for example, outside the pants with jeans and white shoes. In formal version, it can be white and it will be associated with a sports jacket and chino type pants. Why not in this case tuck it inside the pants. In both cases, your shirt can be white, blue or gray, with sober colors always being easier to wear.
