    White shirts

On this page, you will find all of the Première Manche men's white shirts, from poplin to oxford or dobby. Each texture has its particularities (for a nice office shirt, we generally prefer a white poplin or twill shirt. For a casual shirt, we prefer a white Oxford). But each texture also has its flaws: poplin, for example, is often transparent and will crease a lot, especially without chemical treatment. To remedy this, there are white shirts without ironing or simply other fabrics, in particular twill (slightly thicker and easier to maintain); if it is fine and its streaks are less visible, it can almost pass for a poplin. Finally, among the essential white shirts, there are white wedding or ceremony shirts (especially white shirts with single cuffs or French cuffs) whose silky side is a guarantee of quality but may bother some. On this page, you will not find any transparent white shirts: even our white linen shirts are opaque and the linen comes from Ireland all our fabrics come from ultra serious factories. Among our more original models, let yourself be tempted by the white shirt with horn buttons, or our white selvedge shirt model in Japanese fabric. Finally, on each product page, you will have details and typical uses to help you choose. In any case, don't worry, we only offer the best of white.

      The classic white shirt

An essential element of the male wardrobe, the white men's shirt remains an iconic piece: it adapts to all styles and knows how to impose itself in all outfits: from casual to conventional or ceremonies. If its color is basic, the diversity of materials (white shirt in poplin, oxford, twill, speaking only of the most basic) mean that it will always be considered first for all events. It is a basic model that will save you from many situations. Archi presents on television, among politicians or at parties, there are so many differences between two white shirts that Première Manche has concocted a little guide for you to find your way around:

      The white poplin shirt

Basic, essential, its qualities are not lacking. It will mainly be criticized for its lack of opacity in 50% of cases (except at Première Manche). It is indeed complicated to buy a product on the Internet and to realize if a white shirt is transparent! To remedy this, look at the weight of the shirt. We will consider that a shirt is opaque from 130 g/m2 (for a poplin or a twill). Avoid too thin poplins and prefer thick and compact white shirts. Another criterion that determines the quality of a beautiful white shirt is the quality of the cotton thread that composes it: when you want the thread to be more resistant, you double it before weaving it, which increases the resistance of the fabric which then becomes slightly silkier. So remember that to get a nice poplin shirt, we take it rather thick and but a thin cotton (title greater than 80x80). For more, see our article on what makes good quality cotton.

      The white Oxford shirt

Thicker and therefore less transparent than poplin, the white Oxford shirt goes with both formal and casual outfits. For a casual model, the white fabric should not be too bright and can be worn with chinos or jeans. For a casual model, the thicker the white Oxford, the more quality you will have. Simple cuffs and a buttoned collar under a placket will finish the shirt with taste.

      The white office shirt

For the office, the twill shirt is one of the best solutions: little creasing, often less transparent than poplin, it remains thin enough to let the skin breathe.

The twill is also the fabric that can be worn at ceremonies or celebrations, interviews. To wear with a blue (not too dark to avoid too much contrast) or gray suit. Always for the office, a beautiful white herringbone shirt or even a white honeycomb shirt will be more dressy and can be accompanied by French cuffs. With brown or black shoes, always.

      The white linen shirt

Perfect for summer, linen is a material that lets the skin breathe. Reserved for warm seasons, make sure before choosing your linen shirt that it is not transparent and that it does not crease too much. Linen is an overall more expensive material than cotton and if a linen shirt seems cheaper to you, it is probably mixed with cotton. The linen shirt is worn in the summer during the hot weather, so do not hesitate to take a slightly looser model than for your evening shirts. White linen goes well with all chinos and can be worn under a sweater.

What to wear with a white shirt?

She goes with everything. That said, we advise you not to associate it with colors that are too dark (eg black pants, white shirt, anthracite gray jacket, white shirt), the result is average when the contrast is too high.

How to maintain a white shirt?

Cotton being a natural fiber, it tends to be damaged easily and because the fabric is white, the slightest defect will be seen. We therefore advise you not to exceed 30° to wash your white shirts. We have seen Première Manche white office shirts, worn and washed once a week at 30° for over a year and which were like new after about 40 washes. Second tip: iron the collar inside out to avoid damaging the fabric. Third advice: never dry a white shirt in the dryer. Not only will it be able to shrink (this is especially valid for non-pre-washed Oxfords which tend to shrink in the heat) but in addition it breaks the fiber at the molecular level and the shirt becomes unwearable and dull after ten washes? Fourth and final tip: Only wash white shirts with other white shirts to maintain the purity of the white.
