The history of men's socks
It is difficult to trace the complete history of socks, but one thing is certain: the Romans and Greeks were already wearing them! Of course, back then, socks were made of animal hair and skin.
In 1589, the sewing machine appeared and allowed for large-scale production, which also made socks more and more accessible and affordable to the whole society. But in reality, it wasn't until the 1800s that the sewing machine had a real impact on the sock industry.

The sock has experienced many evolutions. Before, mass production was not necessarily profitable because of the price of cotton. But, thanks to the appearance of artificial fibers, socks have gained in attribute. It is at this time that we see the arrival of "technical socks" which are often intended for athletes.
Today, socks are an integral part of our daily lives, both for the comfort of our feet, but also for the style with patterned socks that we sometimes leave outdated. In addition, the circular knitting machine allows a guaranteed mass production. Hundreds of pairs of socks are created per hour.
The different types of socks
There are three main types of socks that we present below:
Mid-High Socks: Here we are talking about the classic all-around socks that are suitable for all seasons. You may have heard of them with the following names "Classic Socks" or even "Standard Socks." These are the most popular pairs in France. These socks usually come just above the ankle.
High socks or knee socks: Unlike the previous socks, these will cover you up to the calf. It is an ideal model for the winter seasons, they will ensure comfort and warmth. It is the famous model in Italy, they met with great success.
Socks and invisible socks: The socks are models of shorter socks. They are usually worn when the temperature rises, during the summer or spring. There are fancier styles for women, with lace or frills. The socks become invisible when they are hidden under the shoe. Beware, the wearing of these socks is not recommended for sports or physical activities.
A rule is to accept the choice of your socks to stay classy and elegant: Never show your skin and your socks at the same time. For example, if you are wearing shorts, do not opt for knee-high socks.
The socks to wear!
Our choice: 100% Egyptian cotton socks
Made of Egyptian cotton, the socks offer undeniable comfort. In addition, "Egyptian cotton" is often used to name the "extra long fiber" cotton produced in Egypt and used by most luxury brands.
Small zoom on the Egyptian cotton: This one is cultivated on a small plot of land located in the East of the Nile Delta. In addition, this cotton is harvested by hand, ensuring the highest levels of purity. This also avoids the use of chemicals.
Thanks to this process, we obtain a yarn of great resistance, silky shine and a very good softness.
In addition, this type of socks is 100% natural and the dyeing of the yarns meets the Oeko-Tex Standard 100.
What is the Okeo-Tex Standard 100? These standards certify and guarantee the non-presence of harmful substances in your textile articles. The Oeko-Tex Standard 100 certification ensures the legal conformity of the tested textile products.
Finally, in order to ensure your comfort, the socks are made with 2 twisted yarns to give them more strength. The toe and heel are reinforced with a third thread.
At Première Manche, you can find these socks in four different colors: red, black, navy blue and charcoal gray.
Sock care
Like all other clothing, to ensure its quality and durability, socks must be cared for!
Washing
To wash your socks, it is advisable to use the wool program 30°: the temperature should not exceed 30° in order not to alter its quality.
Then, it is recommended to wash your socks inside out.
Concerning the products used, only use a washing product for fine linen or special wool and silk detergent. It is very important to follow the dosage instructions. Caution: Do not use fabric softener or color detergent, as the enzymes they contain attack the natural fibers.
Spinning
To spin your socks, choose the "500 rpm" mode maximum. As with washing, dry your socks inside out so as not to damage them and without drying them.
Let your socks dry flat on a suitable flat surface and in the shade so as not to alter the quality of your pairs!
Folding
We often tend to fold our socks into balls, but this should be avoided! Fold them in half to avoid damaging them.
You can even use a wash cover to protect your socks in the machine.
After washing and before wearing your pair of socks, let the material rest for 48 hours.
