Blended fabrics: Unique combination possibilities!
You may have noticed it on some of your labels, but some of our clothes combine and mix several materials. Linen with cotton, viscose with nylon or cotton with polyester... The combinations are many and allow to create trendy and unique pieces! And yes, this allows to create new types of textiles with new properties.
Why do we mix materials to make clothes?
Back to basics!
Several steps are necessary to create a fabric. Indeed, it is necessary to take the fiber, then transform it into yarn before designing the garment.
Let's take the example of cotton, the best known. As you probably know, cotton comes from the cotton flower which comes from different countries like India, China, Brazil or Egypt before being transformed into fabric and clothing.
Combining the benefits of several fibers!
The combination of two types of fibers in the same garment allows to combine several of their advantages. This way, it is possible to compensate for some of the negative properties of a fabric. For example, it allows a perfect comfort or better possibilities of treatment and maintenance, but also to make the product more affordable!
Preserve our environment!
Although mono-material fabrics are easier to recycle, material mixes also have their own benefits on our planet. Indeed, for a used fabric to be reused to create new pieces, it must be defibered, that is to say extract its fibers in order to recreate threads. So, it is easier to recycle mono-material textiles since separating the threads of the same fabric remains, at the moment, quite complex.
But, with mixed fabrics, it is possible to privilege circularity. In fact, brands and textile industries can use fabric scraps to create new pieces and new designs.
The undeniable qualities of certain fibers!
Each fiber has its own properties and qualities. Before choosing a garment, you can learn more about the fibers to choose the piece that will meet your expectations.
Cotton: a very popular fiber!
Cotton is a very popular fiber for the textile industry, but also for consumers. Indeed, it is inexpensive since cotton is relatively easy to produce. For the consumers, it is the possibility of having a hypoallergenic, soft, pleasant, absorbent fabric which supports the heat well. In addition, in terms of maintenance, cotton poses no problem and it is easily ironed!
Linen: soft and light!
The two great qualities of linen are its flexibility and lightness. In fact, linen has insulating and thermoregulatory properties that allow you to stay warm in summer and cool in winter. Like cotton, being a natural fiber, linen is hypoallergenic. This fiber can also absorb up to 20% of moisture and dry quickly. Finally, linen is very durable, creating strong, long-lasting garments. The downside is that it is easily wrinkled, but it does get softer with each wash!
Cashmere: unique properties!
This fiber has rare properties. Indeed, cashmere naturally regulates humidity and therefore has great insulating properties. It is also lighter and warmer than wool. But what makes it so special is its extreme softness. If you want a stylish look, you can opt for cashmere!
Polyester: the perfect fiber for sports!
Polyester is ideal for sports and physical activity. Indeed, it is a resistant fiber since it is very absorbent and robust. Polyester garments tear very little and are not vulnerable to chemicals. Thanks to this robustness, polyester requires little maintenance: it does not wrinkle, is resistant to the sun, does not fade and does not shrink. For sports enthusiasts, it is a lightweight fabric that facilitates daily comfort. Finally, its price is one of the most economical.
Wool: a flexible and resistant textile!
Wool is composed of keratin, a fibrous protein responsible for a great flexibility. For example, it is also found in our hair and nails. The presence of a waxy layer on our clothing thanks to wool prevents the entry of grease when it is stained. It is also a comforting fabric that keeps you warm.
Elastane: for elastic clothes!
The greatest quality of elastane is its elasticity. Stretching up to seven times its size, spandex provides unparalleled comfort to the garment. Its particular appearance allows it to return to its original shape, no matter what you do. Stretchy fibers like these allow for less frequent and less pronounced wrinkles on your garment.
Mixed fiber garments!
You've got it: mixing several fibers allows you to create garments with unique and beneficial properties. There are several blends: cotton and linen, cashmere and cotton, linen and polyester... Endless combinations that have their own properties!
Mix cotton and linen for a soft and strong garment!
The mixture of these two fibers allows to have a shirt that holds well. Indeed, it preserves the qualities of linen against the various temperatures while preserving the strength and hold thanks to cotton. It is perfect for all seasons! Moreover, this mix also allows to control the wrinkled side of the linen while keeping a certain softness that emanates from the cotton. Thus, the mix of cotton and linen allows one to have qualitative clothes.
Polycotton, the combination of polyester and cotton!
Thanks to the properties of these two fibers, polycotton has several positive characteristics. Indeed, they are durable clothes, especially thanks to polyester. These fabrics are difficult to tear and do not shrink in the wash, which extends the life of the product. It is easy to care for: clothes can be washed and dried several times without losing their shape. Most importantly, it is a more breathable fabric than polyester. Polyester fabrics tend to stick to the skin in hot weather, while cotton is very breathable.
Combine polyester and elastane for durable sportswear!
Polyester-elastane blends are most often used for sportswear. For the simple reason that elastane is flexible and can retain its original shape and polyester is durable. Undeniable qualities for sportswear or swimwear.
Cashmere and cotton: a subtle mix!
Cotton and cashmere is a clever combination that creates a thick, dense and very soft knit. It is the ideal material for casual and very comfortable clothes since it ensures an ideal fall for the clothes.
