How to iron your shirt?
It is sometimes difficult to know how to iron a shirt: Which side to start with? Is it better to start with the collar or the sleeves? Première Manche offers you five steps to successfully iron your shirt!
Step 1: Start with the back of the shirt
To easily iron the back of your shirt, simply place the collar flat on the rounded edge of your board. Little tip: You can lightly dampen your shirt and use the steam from your iron, then slide it up and down.
Step 2: Next, you can move on to the sleeves
From now on, it's the body of the shirt that you need to place on the rounding of your board so as not to crease what you've already done: it would be silly to have to do it again! Then, iron from the top of the sleeve to the bottom, starting from the shoulder to the wrist. Don't forget to turn the sleeve over to iron the other side, too.
Step 3: Make room for the cuffs
First of all, please unbutton the wrist and lay it flat on your board. Small precision: for musketeer cuffs, make sure to unfold the cuff completely to facilitate its ironing. Then, simply iron from the outside, moving all the folds to the edges of the cuff.
Step 4: The front of the shirt
We strongly recommend that you start with the side where the buttons are, while avoiding them! This could leave marks and dimples on your shirt. To properly iron the front of your shirt, with your iron in small circular motions, start from the top to the bottom of your shirt.
Step 5: Finish with the collar!
Start by unfolding the collar of your shirt and lay it flat. If your collar contains ribs, it is wiser to remove them. Place the collar at the level of the rounding of your ironing board. Finally, iron the outside of the collar from one end to the other.
By following these five steps, your shirt will be ironed correctly and ironing will be a breeze!
For ease of ironing, you can also opt for non-iron shirts.
