How to fold a shirt?
Temps de lecture : 3 minutes
Knowing how to fold a shirt correctly is like knowing (and never forget!) the date of your wedding or the code of your bank card...it’s essential! To keep a style always impeccable in everyday life as well as when traveling, especially if it is for business! The idea being that as soon as you take out a folded shirt from your closet or suitcase, it can be used immediately without wrinkles, and especially without the need for new ironing. To do this, several steps must be followed and none omitted. Train several times, and you will see that it will quickly become a routine gesture, better mastered and faster and faster.
Step 1: the buttoning
Once your shirt is ironed (see our article how to iron a shirt), button it up and down. The goal? keep it straight when folding.
Step 2: Defrosting
Grasp the shirt by the shoulders and shake it to undo any folds.
Step 3: the work surface
Place your shirt turned upside down on a flat surface with space without anything interfering around. So you have the back of the shirt in front of you.
Step 4: Smoothing
Remove any folds by pushing them back with the palm of your hand, spread the sleeves flat on the sides.
Step 5: the sleeves
Take the right sleeve and pull it gently to the left until you create a fold with a sleeve of the shirt. To give you an idea of the width of this strand: you must keep a small distance between the fold and the collar. Smooth this strand and fold the sleeve down. Do the same on the other side keeping the same distance from the neck to keep the symmetry. Then smooth the two folded sleeves to make the folds disappear.
Step 6: Folding
Take the bottom of the shirt and fold it against the collar by putting your hand at the crease created to break the shirt in the right place: the shirt is folded in half. Smooth again. Then flip your shirt gently: your shirt is perfectly folded, ready to be stored in your closet or suitcase.
If your suitcase is small or you run out of space in your wardrobe, you can fold the bottom of the shirt twice to get a shorter folded shirt.
