Soft collar
The collar of your shirt can have different rigidities: it can be flexible or completely rigid. We will choose a rigid collar for professional or formal situations, and a softer collar for a casual look. The rigidity of a collar is defined by its interlining, this piece of more or less thick iron-on that is placed on the back of the collar. So the finer the interlining, the softer the collar! In addition to a less rigid interlining, the flexible collar does not have a stay inside to stiffen it. With or without a button, it's a collar that moves, that lives with your movements. That's exactly what makes it so charming! The soft collar is therefore reserved for casual and sport shirts, but the more daring will wear it to relax a look that is slightly too strict. At Première Manche, soft collars are therefore those with lighter interlining. Either because the fabric used for the shirt is thick and does not require the addition of a thick fusible interfacing, or simply to give a casual look to the shirt, for our linen models in particular.

The benefits of a soft collar
Why did you choose certain models with a softer collar? On the majority of Première Manche shirts, there is on the one hand a hidden button under the placket which allows the button to remain straight. This button is attached by a clever system to a buttonhole located under the collar and on the other hand removable stays. These two elements mean that there are several layers of fabric on a standard shirt collar. On certain thick fabrics (more than 250g), to avoid having too thick and rigid collars and to keep a good appearance, we have removed the iron-on as well as some of the collar options (in particular the removable stiffeners which do not always have utility without tie).
How is the soft collar ironed?
The soft collar is normally ironed (preferably inside out). It must be ironed in order to avoid creases appearing after the shirt has been washed.
